Oil Spill Training
Control, Containment & Cleanup of Oil Spills on Land 2. Course Standard: This training course meets the same performance criteria as listed in the Nationally Recognised "Course in The Control, Containment and Clean Up of Oil Spills on Land'.(51829)
3. Purpose and Reason Why: This training course will provide an understanding of the concerns that management and other relevant authorities have towards environmental damage caused by oil spills.
The different types of absorbents that are available on the market and their individual characteristics are noted and discussed.
The course includes an understanding of the fundamental properties of hydrocarbons and the basic techniques and equipment to control contain and clean up spills.
A number of "hands-on" demonstrations are used to illustrate important aspects of various types of products. Discussion is held to evaluate those aspects including disposal options.
The important issues of bio-remediation, oil/water separation, disposal and incident reporting are covered in the course.
A short test allows the presenter to review points and ensure those attending have grasped the important issues.
4. Benefits
5. Rewards: Each participant is provided with course notes and a pen. On completion of the course each person receives a peak cap and a few days later a "Certificate" is forwarded from ERG Training, the ‘Registered Training Organisation' partner via Perth Petroleum Services.
6. Location: Training can be held at your site anywhere in Australia or in the Perth Petroleum Services dedicated training room in Welshpool, Western Australia. Training can be conducted at overseas locations.
On site: 1. A training room or similar complete with a whiteboard is essential. 2. A sealed, covered area of at least 3 metres x 4 metres is required for the practical demonstrations. This can be internal or external however it should be situated close to the training room and protected from the sun and rain.
7. Session Duration: Each session consists of three hours of theory and practical demonstrations.
8. Training Aids: Course presentation is by electronic Power Point projection. Laptop computer and projector are supplied. A white board is essential. All other training equipment and aids are transported by Perth Petroleum Services training personnel or are forwarded to the site the week before training takes place.
9. Consumables: All equipment and samples will be supplied except for oil used in the practical demonstrations (dependent on the location).
