Once a spill has reached soil or any broken ground, the control, containment and cleanup of the spill often becomes more difficult than a spill onto a hard surfaces. It is important then to try and contain the spill to the road, car park or hard surfaces. The type of cleanup described in these notes is for a minor spill (few litres) to a medium spill (1500 Litres) of oil or fuel. In a major spill onto soil, a different technique may be used.
